After a devastating earthquake, a young real estate agent, Colbert Coldwell saw the need for trusted, honest and knowledgeable real estate services to help the city rebuild. A few years later, Benjamin Arthur Banker came on board and later became a partner. The founding tradition and heritage of providing professionalism and superior customer service remains the core of the Coldwell Banker philosophy more than 105 years later.

An industry pioneer for more than a century through up and down markets, Coldwell Banker has trail blazed new paths in real estate at every opportunity. The real estate company was founded on August 27, 1906 on the heels of the devastating 1906 fire and earthquake that leveled San Francisco. A young real estate agent, Colbert Coldwell saw the need for honest, knowledgeable real estate services to help the city rebuild. As the company grew, he hired Arthur Banker as a member of his sales staff. The two businessmen eventually formed a partnership, and in 1914 officially named the company Coldwell Banker®.
